What does turmeric taste like on chicken?
Turmeric adds a warm, earthy, and slightly bitter flavor to chicken, with a hint of citrus-like notes. It can also impart a vibrant yellow color to the dish.
Ingredients
- Chicken. I used bite-size skinless, boneless chicken breast. You may use skinless boneless chicken thigh as well. Cutting them small fastens the cooking process and hence faster dinner. Use up leftovers in my tasty chicken salad croissant recipe.
- Green beans. Fresh or frozen. I used frozen thawed green beans and cut them small. You may use any other green vegetables ( asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower) you like the best.
- Ginger. I used a couple of slices of fresh ginger. The ginger powder works too.
- Turmeric. Adds lots of flavors and a beautiful golden color to the dish as well as health benefits.
- Black pepper. Adjust the amount to your preference.
- Onion and garlic powder. Enhance the flavor of the dish. Fresh works too.
- Salt. To taste.
- Flour. Helps to crisp up the chicken fast and keep it moist. You may use cornstarch instead.
- Honey. Add a lovely sweet taste to the dish. Maple syrup works too.
- Oil. I used avocado oil which has a high smoke point and works great for this stir-fry dish.
- Teriyaki sauce. Adds a savory and sweet taste to the dish. You may use soy sauce instead.
- Lemon. Lighten up the dish and add more flavor to it.
How to cook turmeric black pepper chicken (step by step)
1. Let the skillet heat up well over medium-high heat. I used a cast iron skillet.
2. Meanwhile, prepare the dry seasonings (flour, salt, pepper, onion, garlic powder, turmeric) and mix them.
3. Add chicken to it and coat it well.
4. Add oil to the skillet and place each chicken piece into the hot skillet. Let one side brown up (about 3 minutes). Then flip them over to the other side to sear. Make sure your skillet is wide and hot so that the chicken crisps up well.
5. Then add to it green beans and fresh ginger and stir around. Let them cook for about 10 minutes.
6. Meanwhile prepare the wet seasonings (teriyaki sauce, lemon juice, honey).
7. Add it in. Stir around and let them cook until moist liquid is absorbed about 5-10 minutes. Make sure not to overcook or dry it.
8. Serve it with your favorite side dishes (rice, bread, pasta, lettuce). Enjoy!

- Make sure your skillet is hot and lay chicken pieces on a single layer so that each side sears and crisps up well.
- Use high-smoked point oil and high heat. This way chicken breast crisps up fast and stays moist.
