Ingredients for sauteed cabbage

  • Red cabbage. I used half of a medium-sized red/ purple cabbage. You can use other types of cabbage, such as green or white cabbage. I chopped the cabbage into approximately ยฝ” ribbons. You can shred the cabbage if you prefer a finer texture.
  • Diced garlic. For tasty garlic flavor.
  • Teriyaki sauce. It adds a savory and sweet taste to the dish. There are plenty of vegan teriyaki sauces but be sure to check the label.
  • Sesame seeds. Sesame seeds add a delicious nutty crunch and texture. Inspired by Asian – and specifically Chinese – recipes.
  • Oil. I use avocado oil as it has a high smoke point and is fabulous for sautรฉing at high heat. It does not have a smell or taste to alter the dish’s flavor. Butter, sesame oil and olive oil are other options.
  • Seasonings. Salt and pepper to taste. If you’re looking to make it spicy, try adding some red pepper (chilli) flakes.
  • Parsley flakes. To garnish.

Tips for the best-sautรฉed cabbage

  • Adjust cooking duration. How long it takes to sautรฉ and bake cabbage depends on how crunchy or soft you prefer your cabbage to be. Adjust the cooking time appropriately and taste test it.
  • Slice the cabbage thin. I like to slice them a little thick, about 1/2″ (or 1cm). If you prefer, you can slice the cabbage much more thinly.
  • Add your favorite flavors. Use spices, herbs, and sauces of your choice to customize the flavor.
  • Skip oven. You can finish cooking it on the stovetop and skip the oven step, if you prefer.
  • Double the recipe. Make a double batch of this recipe and save it for later! Works well as a side salad, or as an accompaniment to fish, tofu, pork or beef dishes.

Excellent, easy, relatively quick to make recipe. I skipped the oven phase, ( as per one of the comments, see above), made it as stir fry on the stove top. It was a crunchy, really great side dish to the oven roasted salmon.

    1. Hi Jo. Thanks for your comment and rating! I also skip the oven phase, depending on what I’m pairing the cabbage with for that meal. Love your suggestion of oven roasted salmon!
